President’s letter

Dear Members,

I hope everyone is enjoying the warmer weather now that spring has sprung. This month please join us on Tuesday May 21st for our monthly dinner meeting as we will be voting on our slate of officers for 2019-2020. This is the time to come out and voice your support for the chapter.

Also at this meeting, we are going to have one of my favorite ceremonies. We will be awarding scholarships to four very deserving women from each of the four colleges on Staten Island: St. John’s University, Wagner College, The College of Staten Island, and St. Paul’s School of Nursing. Our guest speaker for the evening will be Coleen Kumar.

Mark your calendar, on Wednesday, May 8th the spring district meeting will be held at Café Bella Vita restaurant, I hope everyone will attend. This is a great opportunity to meet the members of other chapters and hear an update from State.

I hope to see everyone at our May meetings.
Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day and Happy Memorial Day!

Sincerely,
Margaret Antoniello
President

Spring Palette

Have you had a chance to go for a ride with no real destination on a sunny spring day?

What do you notice first?
Is it the trees in various shades of green with brand new leaves or
trees that are not green leafed but
are beautiful fruit trees flowering
in shades of pink, white and coral.

Some, depending on their type,
will have branches that grow up toward the sun,
and some have branches that will drape gracefully in an almost shy, bashful manner.

Roll down your window, the ride is not only a visual gift; it is also a gift for another sense. If your travels take you near lilacs, you will Be treated to their subtle fragrance – lilacs – leafy, lacy and luxurious!

And you may see some yellow daffodils and red tulips.

What a magnificent palette of colors offered by a spring adventure.

President’s letter

Dear Members,

We have marked another proud moment in our history. On Sunday, April 7th, our chapter once again had a tremendously successful Women of Distinction Luncheon. We honored women in our community for their accomplishments in their career fields and their dedication to community and family. It was wonderful seeing so many members pitching in to make this year’s event a huge success.

A very special thank you to: Joanne Pietro and Barbara Strype, for all their hard work co-chairing this year’s event, and making sure all of the details were perfect; Christine Olivieri-Donahue and Patrick Donahue for putting the journal together – without them we would not have had the beautiful journal that we did; Elaine Croteau for taking RSVPs, payments, and table arrangements, etc.; Rosemarie Dressler for our beautiful program that kept our day flowing; Jill Holtermann-Bowers, Cathy DiStefano, Annette Fusaro, and Rosemarie Sienicki, for working diligently each week to make sure the baskets were beautiful; Nancy Rooney for arranging the wine pull, and Carol Belmonte for being our in-house photographer! Thank you to our committee and our members for all of your hard work, greeting and checking in attendees, selling raffles, setting up, and making sure our day was perfect. Without you, we would not have been able to have the successful event that we did.

Wishing everyone a Happy Easter and Passover!

Sincerely,

Margaret Antoniello

MARCH
WOMEN IN HISTORY

We had a very successful Women in History month program at our March meeting. A big thank you to co-chairs, Virginia Allen and Robyn Zappola for putting this program together. We had over 100 women participating from more than 20 women’s organizations on Staten Island. Our program included Victoria Munro, Executive Director – Alice Austin House as our guest speaker, a Parade of all of the Women’s organizations. and a hat contest. It was a very enlightening program.

APRIL
WOMEN OF DISTINCTION LUNCHEON

Our luncheon was another big success with more than 190 people in attendance. Along with certificates for all of the honorees from our elected officials we also received Proclamations for the Staten Island Chapter for our 100 Anniversary. The Borough President also proclaimed April 7, 2019 as New York State Women – Staten Island Day.
