President’s letter

Greetings to all! The next several months are going to be incredibly busy and exciting for our chapter and we need your support.

This year’s Career Day initiative will take place Monday, February 26th, at St. John’s University. This project will expose women to new career possibilities, offering them career ideas that could help them realize their full potential. Many may not be aware of the wide range of occupations available to them, and the women comprising The Sisterhood will work together to help those attending.

At our Tuesday, February 20th, dinner/meeting, under our program Women Helping Women, we will make a presentation to Wishes of Literacy with founder Wendy Ramos. Wishes of Literacy is Staten Island’s only non-profit learning center dedicated to helping children who struggle to read and learn because of Dyslexia and other learning disabilities.

On Saturday March 8th, our Historian, Virginia Allen, and her committee are planning a Legacy Tea to mark the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in New York State. New York was one of the first states in the country to pass legislation giving women the right to vote in 1917, three years before the 19th amendment was passed. To celebrate this landmark, and to honor women in history, our chapter is inviting all women’s organizations on Staten Island to participate in an event to celebrate the “Legacy of Women.” This is another interesting committee. I encourage you to attend.

Our chapter’s premier annual event/fundraiser, our Women of Distinction Luncheon, is coming up quickly, on Sunday, April 8th. We have an amazing group of honorees this year. This is an exciting and busy time for our event co-chairs, Margaret Antoniello, Cammie Bradofino, Diane Seridge and their committee. This is a huge project and I am sure additional member support is needed. To work with this amazing trio please contact them. Remember, this event brings in much of the funds that allow us to help others each year, and our team needs your support.

So, as you can see, there are a lot of exciting things happening – plus more! I look forward to seeing you!

Please remember that you as a member make the chapter. I strongly encourage you to join at least one committee. Your talent and support helps increase the impact of our chapter.

Thank you,
Christine Olivieri-Donahue
President
