President’s letter

Dear Members,

I hope everyone is enjoying the warmer weather now that spring has sprung. This month please join us on Tuesday May 21st for our monthly dinner meeting as we will be voting on our slate of officers for 2019-2020. This is the time to come out and voice your support for the chapter.

Also at this meeting, we are going to have one of my favorite ceremonies. We will be awarding scholarships to four very deserving women from each of the four colleges on Staten Island: St. John’s University, Wagner College, The College of Staten Island, and St. Paul’s School of Nursing. Our guest speaker for the evening will be Coleen Kumar.

Mark your calendar, on Wednesday, May 8th the spring district meeting will be held at Café Bella Vita restaurant, I hope everyone will attend. This is a great opportunity to meet the members of other chapters and hear an update from State.

I hope to see everyone at our May meetings.
Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day and Happy Memorial Day!

Sincerely,

Dear Members,

We have marked another proud moment in our history. On Sunday, April 7th, our chapter once again had a tremendously successful Women of Distinction Luncheon. We honored women in our community for their accomplishments in their career fields and their dedication to community and family. It was wonderful seeing so many members pitching in to make this year’s event a huge success.

A very special thank you to: Joanne Pietro and Barbara Strype, for all their hard work co-chairing this year’s event, and making sure all of the details were perfect; Christine Olivieri-Donahue and Patrick Donahue for putting the journal together – without them we would not have had the beautiful journal that we did; Elaine Croteau for taking RSVPs, payments, and table arrangements, etc.; Rosemarie Dressler for our beautiful program that kept our day flowing; Jill Holtermann-Bowers, Cathy DiStefano, Annette Fusaro, and Rosemarie Sienicki, for working diligently each week to make sure the baskets were beautiful; Nancy Rooney for arranging the wine pull, and Carol Belmonte for being our in-house photographer! Thank you to our committee and our members for all of your hard work, greeting and checking in attendees, selling raffles, setting up, and making sure our day was perfect. Without you, we would not have been able to have the successful event that we did.

Wishing everyone a Happy Easter and Passover!

Sincerely,

Margaret Antoniello

Dear Members,
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends, I would like to thank each of you for participating in the Thanksgiving basket delivery with the rotaries of Staten Island as well as your generosity with the food drive for the Our Lady of Good Counsel and St. Edward’s food pantries.
I look forward to seeing each of you on Tuesday, December 18th at our Holiday party. Our committee is preparing a fun evening. We are asking every member to bring a friend to our holiday party, to join us in celebrating the season and festivities. This will give them the opportunity to meet our members and hopefully support our chapter by joining. Your participation in this effort is important and very much appreciated.
In the spirit of the holiday season, we are supporting the Children’s Aid Society at Goodhue. The preschool children are in need of hats, scarves, gloves and socks. I hope you will share in donating a gift to the children. We will deliver the gifts to the children and will have an opportunity to meet them (date and time to follow). We will also be collecting tea, coffee, and hot chocolate for the food pantry at St. Edward’s, as we were made aware that those items are often forgotten and appreciated at this time of year.
I hope that your professional endeavors and your time with loved ones are happy and fruitful this holiday season.
I wish each of you a happy holiday.

Sincerely,
Margaret Antoniello,

Dear Members,

With the hustle and bustle of the holidays upon us it’s easy for all of us to get swept up in the festivities and lose sight of our many blessings.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year because it reminds us to give thanks and to count the many blessings we have. Suddenly the little things become frivolous when we realize how lucky and blessed we truly are. Thanksgiving is a special day that we pause and give thanks for those many blessings.
It is tradition for our chapter to share with those less fortunate. This year we are asking our members to participate by donating non-perishable items for the food pantries on Staten Island. We will also be participating with the South Shore Rotary’s preparation and delivery of Thanksgiving food baskets to those in need.
I would like to wish each of you a Happy Thanksgiving. Let’s please remember all the blessings we each have in our lives, not only at this time of year, but throughout the year. I am thankful for the continued support from each of you, and the opportunity to get to know and work with so many wonderful women in this organization.

Thank you,

Dear Members,

I hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying the fall weather. This is an exciting month for our Chapter. There are a number of activities that will keep us busy both in helping others and having fun.

Our program for our monthly meeting will be the Annual Candidate’s Forum. We have several candidates appearing an there will be an opportunity for you to ask questions.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and although we will not be walking as a team this year due to a conflict with our Region II meeting I encourage everyone to think pink & make a donation to the cause if you are able to do so. As a Chapter we have made a $100 donation to the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Campaign.

The Region II meeting will be on Sunday October 21st and I hope everyone will be able to join us for a fun afternoon starting at 12:00 with lunch at Da Noi followed by a Murder Mystery at The Little Victory Theater.

This month our members are involved in numerous events that are near and dear to their hearts and I ask that if you are able to, please help support them with their missions. On October 14th, new member Alexandria Fiorenza will be participating in the Jersey Shore Food Allergy Heroes walk in Long Branch New Jersey. On October 15th, Fran Reali will be hosting the Tenth Annual Memorial Protecting One Young Heart At A Time, in memory of her son Frank Reali III, and one of the honorees is our member, Rosemarie Dressler. On October 28th, Cammie Brandofino will be hosting a Royal Tea Luncheon for The Staten Island Chapter of Cooley’s Anemia Foundation that has affected members of her family as well as so many others.

Thank you,

Dear Members,

This was a fun summer. We had members sharing some social activities – lunch at Aunt Butchie’s and America Pops, lunch at the South Shore Bar & Grill, and dinner and cocktails at Chef Mike’s Rodizio Grill. We started the year off by supporting the children at the Goodhue Center with backpacks and school supplies. I am so pleased to say the project was well supported with the generous donations and volunteerism from our members. This is an extremely important effort to help children within our community improve their lives through education.

The program for our monthly dinner meeting, on Tuesday September 18th at the Staaten at 6:30 p.m., will be the Induction Ceremony. This is a very special dinner meeting at which we will hold a ceremony to induct our new members.

This event is an important part of our year. It not only officially welcomes and initiates new members into our organization, but it also builds the pride and enthusiasm of our entire membership.

If you have not yet joined a committee, please do so. Your participation is important. This is an opportunity for you to share in the chapter’s planning and activities. With your talent and support, this coming year is going to be a great success.

Thank you,

Dear Friends,

We are coming to the close of a year which our chapter was fully committed to making the best year ever. We created a plan, set our goals, and initiatives were followed through. Each initiative involved specific responsibilities that were assigned to specific people, with start dates and end dates. We set goals and tracked our progress, fully committed and meeting our challenges. What inspired me most was our members. I feel that our members truly showed their dedication, generosity and support. I am so proud of our chapter. Congratulations to you all.

I would like to thank the Executive Board, Committee Chairs, and all of our members for making this a successful year. Without your combined efforts, all that we achieved would not have been possible.

On Tuesday, June 19th, we are inducting our 2018-2019 officers. I am confident that your new President, Margaret Antoniello, and executive board will continue to make this coming year even more successful. I know that having your support will help fulfill the chapter’s mission together.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,
