Pre-Halloween Sight

Pre-Halloween Sight

By Ann Clinton

On a recent clear autumn night
There was seen a strange sight
A Halloween witch on her broom
Was practicing sweeps against the full moon!

She landed in a hollow nearby
And went right to work with a sigh
Screeching her riddles and honing her spells
Dancing with her broom and shaking eerie bells

The apparition lasted not long, it was over in a hurry
And soon nothing could be seen except the flurry
Of a witch’s cape as it sailed past the moon
Without a doubt we’ll be seeing her again soon

THANKSGIVING

THANKSGIVING
By: Ann Clinton
Summer is over, Fall has begun
Days are shorter, a little less sun
Bright orange pumpkins are ready for picking
Shiny candy apples invite tasting and licking
Fields are filled with haystacks golden and tall
While colorful mums hug an old stone wall
Wafting through kitchens aromas of turkeys and yams
Intermingled with the scents of delicious pies and hams
Families gather together with those they hold dear
Thanksgiving – a wonderful time of the year!

MIDNIGHT SOUNDS

MIDNIGHT SOUNDS
By Ann Clinton

In the quiet hours after midnight
When the birds are in their nests
And the wind has died down
There can often be heard the sounds
Clink, clink, clink
As the railroad tracks move into position
Signaling there is life in
This otherwise quiet of night
A train is coming down the line
Grey bullet approaching
With eerie light casting shadows
On the dormant cement structures
Then continuing its journey and the
Sounds once again
Clink, clink, clink
Recede into the night as the track
Resumes position; mission accomplished

SPRING

SPRING

BY ANN CLINTON

SPRING
The day is sunny
What a delight
Calm breezes filling
The day and night
Astir in its nest
Robin knows best
It must be spring
As robin takes wing
Winter woes
A thing of the past
Wonderful spring
Arriving at last
Purple hyacinths
Fragrant and bright
Join yellow daffodils
What a glorious sight!
It’s SPRING!!!
